I recently published a new article at Community MX titled Working Around the Flash Security Model with a Web Service Proxy.
The article covers how to proxy a web service if it lives on a domain that you don’t have access to from Flash. It uses ColdFusion to create the web service proxy.

I’m going to be speaking at TODCon on April 25, 2005. The topic is Creating a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) with Flash. The following is the description of the session:
“While the use of web services has become more common since the release of Flash MX 2004, few developers are putting web services at the core of their architecture. This session will introduce how to use a Service-Oriented Architecture within the context of Flash development. The session will also show how to implement web services, discuss security issues and compare web service alternatives.”

Adobe announced this morning that it plans to aquire Macromedia. This is HUGE news for all of us that use Macromedia and Adobe products! It will be very interesting to hear what their plans are. I’m sure they won’t be talking about it until the acquisition is approved by shareholders and the SEC.
Mike Chambers has blogged about this topic. Go here to read more about what he has to say.

Yesterday it was officially Announced that Macromedia will be using the video codec from ON2 in the next version of the Flash Player codenamed Maelstrom. This is huge! ON2 is probably the hottest codec on the market today. You can see samples of ON2 video on their web site. You’ll need to download their proprietary video player to view the samples.
“Macromedia Flash allows customers to deliver immersive video experiences to the broadest possible audience,” said Jeff Whatcott, vice president of marketing, Macromedia. “On2 Video technology will help take the quality and creative possibilities of Flash video to a whole new level.”

Check out Goowy’s new flash-based email interface. Its very cool and uses some nice DHTML techniques to display HTML-formatted emails in IE. Too bad these techniques don’t work in FireFox. Still it’s a good interface.

Since moving to Boston I have noticed that not only does everyone use the word soda, but they look at you like you are from another country if you call it pop. A friend of mine sent me this map that shows what name people use for soft drinks in different parts of the country. Very interesting. :)
